It is the Soldier!

On this Memorial Day weekend, we express our appreciation to those who have served in the armed forces. We thank God for our soldiers, and for the many stories of His protection on them as they serve around the world. The bravery and sacrifice of those who have stood and fought and died will always be remembered.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter,
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer,
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protestor to burn the flag.

Steve: Thanks for remembering the US Military people on this Memorial Day. We left a lot of friends over "there", and some who did come back, are still struggling with the past. Thanks for the excellent poem and thoughts.
